| After 2 hurricanes,
1 flood, and the wettest summer
central Arkansas has had in years,
Long Forestry successfully competed
this contract in the beginning of
October. We would like to
thank our subcontractors Bear and
Monty for their help and good work
and also the great people at the
Corp of Engineers in central
Arkansas for the opportunity and
kindness. |

Mike types
data into the Trimble unit using a
stylus. Taking the place of
pen and paper, the practice of
inventory collection is always
moving towards the use of digital
tools.

Chris is using a wood borer to
extract a cross section sample
of the tree. This will be used
to count tree age and growth rate.. |
| Below Chris
uses a compass to shoot an azimuth
through the trees. This keeps the
cruisers on the right path for
correct plot placement. |

Above Mike is counting
regeneration on the forest floor.
The regen count circles 11'8" from
plot center. |

We go through several rolls of
duct tape and cans of Permanone to
keep ticks and chiggers off our
bodies. Otherwise there would
be many uncomfortable and sleepless
nights. |
| The usually
central Arkansas dry climate gave us
3 days of rain during our first week
on the job. |
