Green Earth Inc. |
|
| Green
Earth began with the purchase of a 20
acre piece of land over 25 years ago,
and now manages over 190 acres on 6
tracts of land. A not-for-profit
organization, Green Earth Inc depends on
monetary donations and volunteer efforts
to manage their properties. All 6
properties are managed as nature
preserves with emphasis on education,
school classrooms and other
organizations often hold field trips to
the Green Earths natural areas. You

WSIU Public Radio |
|
Long Forestry is an underwriter of
WSIU radio, located on the campus of
SIUC in southern Illinois. WSIU
provides quality news and educational
programs, classical music during the
week and several genres of music on the
weekends. WSIU radio can be found
on the dial at 91.9 in Carbondale, 90.3
in Olney, 88.9 in Mt Vernon, and on HD
in Carbondale, and they are streaming
live online . Also, Long
Forestry appeared in WSIU's newsletter,
Signal, as a featured underwriter.

WDBX Community Radio |
|
|
Long Forestry also underwrites WDBX, a
community radio station that broadcasts
from Carbondale's town square.
Their mission statement is to "provide
a public forum for artistic and cultural
expression and for the exchange of ideas
among individuals and the community."
WDBX appeared in the air waves in 1996
and currently has over 100 volunteers
who create over 80 different weekly
programs. "The programming is a
mirror of the diversity of our
community, with music from across the
street to around the world, as well as a
vibrant section of local talk
programming and more." |

Hollow
Pumpkin CSA |
|
The Hollow Pumpkin CSA is community
supported agriculture that
provides its members with weekly
deliveries of freshly picked and locally
grown organic fruits and vegetables.
Farmer Steve Smith came to Anna Illinois
from New York over 30 years ago with a
strong desire to go back to the land and
organically grow vegetables. He is
dedicated to providing the Southern
Illinois community with fresh, local,
ecologically sound produce and he is
always excited about sharing his
knowledge with everyone, especially the

The Walnut Council |

| Founded in 1970, the
Walnut Council is an international
association representing nearly 1000
woodland owners, foresters, forest
scientists, and wood-producing industry
representatives in 45 states and 7
foreign countries. The purpose is
to assist in the technical transfer of
forest research to field applications,
help build and maintain better markets
for wood products and nut crops, and to
promote sustainable forest management,
conservation, reforestation, and
utilization of American black walnut(Juglans
nigra) and other high quality fine
hardwoods. |

Land for Learning |

| The Land for
Learning Institute was created in 2004
in the vision of L.B. Sharp, the "Father
of Outdoor Education," for the sole
purpose of taking individuals and groups
"into the outside" and connecting them
with themselves, the people around them,
and the natural world. Land for
Learning provides programs such as Canoe
expiditions, the More Kids in the Woods
Nature Program, Cache River Wetland
Ecology, and Elder hostels. |

Trails of Awareness |

| The Trails of
Awareness Project is a unique
recreational program located in Southern
Illinois that utilizes the natural world
as a place of learning, growth, and
inspiration through nature awareness.
The project offers mentoring programs,
workshops, camps, presentations and
expeditions that seek to educate and
promote ancient connections to the
natural world. These attributes are
facilitated through nature awareness
training, primitive and wilderness
living skills, survival, music, native
lore, natural movement exercises,
storytelling, the art of tracking, and
presentations on cultural and natural
history from modern field ecological and
indigenous perspectives. |
