| Ruma, IL - Bush
Honeysuckle Control |
Long Forestry recently
completed a 116 acre bush honeysuckle
project in Ruma, IL. The stand
contained a heavy infestation of mature bush
honeysuckle throughout and also had pockets
of autumn olive and tree of heaven. We
had to use a combination of control methods
to complete the job. The method used
depended on the type of plant, size of the
plant, and current weather conditions.
They include mechanical cutting, stump
spraying, basal bark treatments, foliar
spraying and hand pulling, or grubbing.
The deadline for the completion of this
job was 9 weeks from the start date.
Long Forestry finished the project 6 weeks
after starting and all inspections were
easily passed. Long Forestry is well
experienced in large and heavy invasive
projects

Below
are 2 pictures of the understory before we
began work. It is difficult to see the
level of infestation in the pictures, but
all of the green leaves in the understory
are bush honeysuckle. In the top picture
below all of the green shrubbery are bush
honeysuckle.

honeysuckle plants in the foreground and
continuing back into the woods. |

Below and to the right are areas that have
just been cut and sprayed. All of the
plants are lying on the ground and their
leaves are starting to wilt.
|
We returned to the Adorer's campus to
inspect our own work a month after we
completed the project and we found a sea of
brown and drying honeysuckle leaves.
It is much easier to imagine the level of
infestation now that the leaves have turned.
